Honors Program
The Honors Program is designed for qualified students of all majors who want to participate in challenging, discussion-based courses on interdisciplinary and topical issues. The program integrates academic and social interaction in a variety of settings, with courses that span several disciplines or approaches to learning; campus speakers and discussions; social activities; community service; a newsletter; and the hosting of a high school quiz-bowl tournament. Honors students are highly involved in the program, from the selection of Honors courses and solicitation of faculty to teach them, to membership on the Honors Student Council.
Topics of recent Honors courses included gender-fair education for girls and women; social and ethical dilemmas in human experimentation; photojournalism; civil rights law; and evolution and creation. Honors courses are limited to 20 students or fewer. The program's small class sizes and unique subjects promote independent thinking, intellectual creativity, and leadership skills in a rigorous, satisfying, transformative environment.
