PharmD/MBA |
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
In cooperation with the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and the College of Business and Public Administration, pharmacy students can participate in a joint program combining the Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees. Students complete the prerequisite credits for the MBA program before the beginning of the fifth year in the pharmacy curriculum and complete MBA courses during the fifth and sixth years of the pharmacy curriculum. The combined degree program decreases the time required to complete the two degrees independently.
The combined degree program typically takes an extra semester to complete beyond the pharmacy degree, rather than an extra two years if the two programs were completed individually. Students who wish to complete both degrees in six years will complete MBA foundation and MBA courses during the summer sessions.
DEGREE OPTION
Doctorate of Pharmacy and Master of Business Administration
FACULTY
All faculty hold the highest degrees in their field.
ACADEMIC PREPARATION
Although no specific high school classes are required for first-year students applying for admission into the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, 4 years of English, science and mathematics are highly recommended. Students should take the most challenging courses available through their high school careers to best prepare themselves for the first year of pre-pharmacy coursework.
PHARMD ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
First-year students are selected for direct admission to the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences as pre-pharmacy students from a pool of applicants. Entrance to the professional program is guaranteed as long as the student achieves a minimum 3.0 overall GPA, a 3.0 GPA in mathematics and science courses, and otherwise successfully completes all pre-professional requirements withing two years of enrollment. Neither the PCAT nor an interview is required.
Students who are not selected for direct admission to the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences may be admitted to the College of Arts and Sciences. These students may apply for admission to the professional level of the pharmacy program. The PCAT will not be required provided all coursework is completed at Drake.
MBA ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must complete the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) and be admitted to the MBA program prior to enrolling in MBA courses. Admission must be gained to the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences initially and then to the MBA program before enrolling in the graduate level courses. Students start at Drake in pharmacy and apply to the College of Business and Public Administration after completing the prerequisite courses.
GRADUATE PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
This program requires a careful selection of prerequisite courses for the MBA degree as electives in the pharmacy curriculum. Students who complete all MBA foundation courses and have been admitted to the MBA program may begin MBA coursework as early as the second doctorate of pharmacy year. A total of 204 credits are required to complete the pharmacy degree. Students are also obligated to complete Drake curriculum requirements. Professional electives (6 cr.) are satisfied by MBA course work.
