The deadline for entering first-year students to apply for admission for the fall of 2008 has passed and applications are no longer being accepted. Transfer students are still able to apply for admission for fall 2008.
Beginning October 1, applicants to all programs of study except for pharmacy are notified of an admission decision within three weeks after all required materials have been received in the Office of Admission. The $25 application fee is waived for students who apply online.
First-Year Applicants
(except to the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences' Pre-Pharmacy program)
Students entering Drake bring a variety of talents, interests and academic preparation. Each completed application for admission is reviewed individually. Drake University considers the following criteria to be important in evaluating your qualifications for admission:
-
The quality of preparation for college-level work that you have achieved in high school in terms of coursework and grades. Your high school record will be evaluated to determine your potential to achieve academic success at Drake University.
-
Satisfactory scores on the American College Test (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
-
Evidence of involvement and leadership in activities.
Drake encourages students with a solid college preparatory curriculum who are active in their school and communities to apply for admission.
Here are the key steps for you to take now if you are interested in Drake and are in high school:
- Apply.
- Arrange to send to the Office of Admission your official high school transcript, including your estimated rank in the class (if available), your current grade point average and the High School Report & Counselor Recommendation Form, which is included with the application for admission.
- Have an official copy of your ACT or SAT test scores sent to the Office of Admission from the appropriate testing agency.
- Submit an essay that demonstrates your thought process, writing ability and creativity.
- While it has no bearing on admission, you can see what AP/IB/CLEP credits Drake accepts.
The priority deadline for admission, scholarships, financial aid and housing is March 1, 2008. Applications received after this date will be considered on a space-available basis. Applicants for the National Alumni Scholarship must apply for admission and submit all other required admission documents by the December 7, 2007, postmark deadline.
First-Year Applicants to the Pre-Pharmacy program in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
The deadline for applying to the pre-pharmacy program for fall 2008 has passed.
Admission to Health Sciences is available in any term. Admission to the pre-pharmacy program is offered only for the fall term.
Applying for direct admission to the pre-pharmacy program differs from applying to all other undergraduate programs of study in two ways. There is a strict final application deadline, and the students will be selected from a pool of applicants rather than on a rolling-admission basis. Admission may be granted directly to the pre-pharmacy program or to the program you have designated as a second field of study. More information on admission to the pre-pharmacy program is available here.
December 1, 2007, is the final deadline for direct admission to the pre-pharmacy program. The application must be postmarked no later than December 1, 2007. All required documents must reach the Office of Admission no later than December 10, 2007. Notification of admission decisions will be made in January.
Required documents include the application, application fee (if required), High School Report and Counselor Recommendation Form, official transcript(s), ACT or SAT score, and the essay.
