Undergraduate programs

The deadline for entering first-year students to apply for admission for the fall of 2008 has passed and applications are no longer being accepted. Transfer students are still able to apply for admission for fall 2008.

Applications for admission to undergraduate degree programs or to the Intensive English Program are submitted to the Office of Admission. Students are encouraged to apply for admission before March 1, the priority deadline for scholarship and financial aid consideration. Applications received after this date will be considered on a space-available basis. Students may apply for admission for the fall, spring, or summer terms.

Applicants wishing to improve their language proficiency before beginning an academic program may apply for admission to both an academic program and the Intensive English Program. Drake offers conditional admission to applicants who meet the University's academic requirements, but first need to improve their English. To enroll in Drake degree courses on a full-time basis, students must achieve a TOEFL score of at least 530 (PBT), 197 (CBT), or 71 (iBT). Students with scores between 480 and 530, 157 to 197, or 54 to 71, may be approved to enroll in both degree courses and English classes, each on a part-time basis. Students whose TOEFL scores are less than 480, 157, or 54 are asked to enroll in English classes on a full-time basis.

Academic records and examination results always must be submitted to Drake University in official form, which will differ from country to country. Faxed transcripts and transcripts photocopied without a fresh seal from the secondary or postsecondary school are not considered official records, and an admission decision cannot be made until the official records are submitted. Any translated record should be a literal translation, not an interpretative one, and should be accompanied by the original-language record. Both records should be freshly certified by the school, not by notaries or translators.

Freshman applicants
(except to the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences' Pre-Pharmacy program)

In addition to the application for admission, students must submit official secondary school records and examination results. Although it is not required for admission, you are strongly encouraged to take the SAT or ACT and have a score report sent directly from the testing agency, since one of these standardized tests is required for scholarship consideration.

You also are strongly encouraged to take the TOEFL and have an official score report sent to Drake. Students who have not taken the TOEFL prior to arrival on campus must take it during the orientation session prior to the start of the semester.

At least one recommendation from a guidance counselor or teacher is required. An essay written in English about your personal background and professional goals and a summary of your extracurricular activities are also required.

Transfer applicants
(except to the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences' PharmD program)

Students transferring from other postsecondary institutions are asked to submit, at a minimum, the application for admission and official academic records from all postsecondary schools attended. You also are strongly encouraged to take the TOEFL and have an official score report sent to Drake. Students who have not taken the TOEFL prior to arrival on campus must take it during the orientation session prior to the start of the semester.

An essay, recommendation from a professor, and summary of activities are highly encouraged. Course syllabi should be submitted for transfer credits to be evaluated at the point of admission

Pharmacy applicants

Admission to the pre-pharmacy and PharmD programs is offered only for the fall (August) term.

Freshman Applicants:

The deadline for applying to the pre-pharmacy program for fall 2008 has passed.

Applying for direct admission to the pre-pharmacy program differs from applying to all other undergraduate programs of study in two ways. There is an application deadline, and the students will be selected from a pool of applicants rather than on a rolling-admission basis. Admission may be granted directly to the pre-pharmacy program or to the college or school you have designated as a second field of study. More information on freshmen admission to the pre-pharmacy program is available here.

December 1, 2007, is the final deadline for direct admission to the pre-pharmacy program. The application must be postmarked no later than December 1, 2007. All required documents must reach the Office of Admission no later than December 10, 2007. Notification of admission decisions will be made in January.

Required documents include the application, application fee (if required), official transcript(s), ACT or SAT scores, TOEFL score, and the essay.

Transfer Applicants:

Students are considered for admission only to the professional level of the pharmacy program. Admission is not offered to transfer applicants at the preprofessional level. All professional-program applicants must complete the application offered by the Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS), only available at www.pharmcas.org, not the Drake University application for admission.

Drake's application deadline is January 4, 2008, and early application, preferably in the fall, is strongly recommended. PCAT scores must be submitted directly to PharmCAS at code 104. More information on pharmacy admission for transfer students is available here.

Intensive English Program (IEP) applicants

Since Drake's IEP program offers courses at the intermediate and advanced levels, applicants must have completed secondary school and have at least an elementary knowledge of English. The TOEFL is strongly recommended but not required prior to admission.

Application to an undergraduate degree program may be made at the same time as to the IEP. The application for undergraduate admission is separate from the IEP. You must submit an application for admission and official academic records to be considered for admission.
