International Center

Whether you want to explore other parts of the world or are coming to Drake from another country, the University will introduce you to new cultures, regions, and perspectives. Over 300 international students from 60 countries study at Drake, so you'll expand your outlook simply by interacting with your classmates. You also can study abroad, for a semester or a year, with programs offered in more than 60 countries. Many do not require knowledge of a foreign language.

On campus, the International Students Association, open for membership to all Drake students, sponsors a variety of activities including the popular annual International Night, a cultural show and food fair widely attended by members of the Drake and Des Moines communities. ISA members also elect a representative to serve on Drake's Student Senate, the students' voice to the administration on campus policy issues.

The International Center at Drake coordinates numerous services for international students, including pre-arrival information and transportation from the Des Moines International Airport; special orientation sessions; non-academic advising services; and a host family program. The International Center also offers the Intensive English Program, a full- or part-time English as a second language program for non-native speakers. The program emphasizes English language skills and cultural orientation for both undergraduate and graduate students.

For information on any programs and services of the International Center, visit their Web site, or call toll-free 1-800-44-DRAKE, x4588; locally and from outside the United States, call 1-515-271-2084. The fax number is 1-515-271-4588.
