Drake Relays

Ask any Drake student, and he or she will tell you the greatest week of the year on campus is Relays. More than 20,000 spectators, 220 college and university teams, and world-class athletes such as Michael Johnson, Gwen Torrence and Carl Lewis congregate on campus for the sporting event known as America’s Athletic Classic.

Launched in 1910, the Drake Relays is one of the top track and field meets in the world. The three-day competition attracts some of the fastest people on the planet; even  Jesse Owens once ran in the Relays.  Many past and future Olympians, as well as college and university athletes from across the country, compete annually. And you don’t need to be a runner to participate in any number of Relays Week events including live music, the Relays carnival, a mud volleyball tournament and the campus-wide street painting competition. Check out the official Drake Relays Web site to learn more.
