Professional & Career Development Services
Whether you want to earn income, gain professional experience or both, Drake will help you find employment regardless of your financial need. It's a great way to make money, build your resume, define your interests, and meet people.
Drake's Professional and Career Development Services is an important source for all students, whether you're choosing a major, seeking internships, writing your resume, applying to graduate school or launching your career. You can use the center's resources, attend its workshops, consult its library and work with its staff beginning in your first year.
A variety of on-campus jobs are available to students eligible for federal work-study awards, based on calculated financial need. Students apply for work-study awards by completing the FAFSA. Employment awards generally range from $500 to $1600 a year. Wage rates start at $5.15 an hour based on the job skills required and experience desired by the employer. A typical Drake student works eight to 12 hours a week. Students who are not eligible for need-based financial aid may seek non-work-study employment off campus. Information and assistance are available in Drake's Student Employment Office.
Approximately 70 percent of undergraduate Drake students also gain invaluable experience and a paycheck with off-campus internships and employment. Drake's location in Des Moines, the capital city of Iowa, offers a wide variety of work opportunities for students in their areas of study and beyond, in business, government, publishing, nonprofit organizations, and much more. These internships add to the fact that 95% of our graduates (in 2003) had a job or a graduate school placement within six months of graduation.
