Library Resources

Cowles Library, the main library for the University, is an integral part of the learning experience for Drake students. Its print and electronic collections support and supplement classroom instruction and research. The collections include more than 550,000 books and journals, 94,000 federal and state government documents, 777,000 microform records, 70 electronic databases, approximately 15,000 scholarly online journals, as well as DVDs and music CDs.

Cowles Library's Information Commons brings together technology, resources and specialized guidance into a more cooperative learning environment for students. Librarians assist individual users in doing research and offer a variety of group and individual instruction opportunities including LIB 046; a course designed to provide students with 21st century information literacy skills.

The building features a variety of different types of study spaces for individuals or groups, over 40 computer workstations for individuals or small groups and two classrooms. A wireless network supports laptop computer access to the Drake network from any seat in the library.
