Additional Admission Requirements for International Graduate Students
International students who wish to apply for admission to a graduate program at Drake University must provide the following, in addition to standard admission requirements:- Official transcripts from each institution attended. If the official transcript is not provided in English, both the original and an English translation must be provided. The English translation must be certified by your institution. Any translated record should be an exact (not an interpretative) translation.
- Official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test scores from the past two years. These tests are designed to indicate the level of English proficiency. Minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 550 on the paper-based examination, 213 on the computer-based examination or 79-80 on the internet-based examination. Minimum acceptable IELTS score is 6.5.
- A Financial Certificate. To satisfy U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service regulations, international students must submit documented evidence of financial support for their education expenses. Although the admission decision at Drake University is unrelated to the receipt of this certificate or other proof of adequate financial resources, an immigration document (the I-20) cannot be issued for a student visa until the resources are proven adequate and verified.
- The financial certificate must be signed by the student and sponsor and either countersigned and sealed by the sponsor's bank, or a separate letter or statement may be issued to support the information provided on the certificate. Bank attestations and letters must be in original form and on official letterhead stationery.
- Students sponsored by governments or organizations must provide an original letter on official stationery showing the amount of the grant or sponsorship.
