An alternative to the AOI general education track, Drake's Honors track allows students to fulfill the Drake Curriculum by taking discussion-based, writing-intensive courses on topical issues. Drake's unique Honors program has no strict GPA requirements for participation: students committed to engaging in courses are welcome to apply.
The schedule of Honors classes changes each semester, with new and innovative courses offered each term. Honors students may choose which classes pique their interests, and create their own interdisciplinary track with the 15 Honors elective hours.
Honors Track Requirements:
- One Quantitative AOI course -- 3 credits
- One Artistic Experience AOI course -- 3 credits
- One Physical or Life Science course with lab -- 4 credits
- HONR 100: Paths to Knowledge -- 4 credits (suggested for sophomore level or above)
- 15 additional credits in Honors courses
Students who complete the Honors Track, complete an Honors Senior Thesis project, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher are eligible to graduate with an "University Honors" distinction on their Drake transcript.
