Teach in China Application Instructions
The deadline for the 2012-2013 Teach in China program is March 2, 2012. Contact Kirk Martin (kirk.martin@drake.edu) with any questions. Your application will be considered along with all other applicants to create a program cohort of up to 25 participants selected with the following criteria in mind:
a. Academic performance and extra-curricular experience
b. Demonstrated sense of maturity, responsibility and citizenship
c. Ability to express how the Teach in China program will apply to personal and professional development goals
d. Demonstrated knowledge of program placement schools and locations to be gained through program informational sessions, contact with current and/or former participants or with Program Director.
Application procedure:
1. This year marks the first year that the application for Teach in China will be automated online through Drake's International Program System. To access the teach in China application:
a. Go to https://drake-horizons.symplicity.com/student
b. Log in to the system using your Drake e-mail address and Banner password
c. Search programs by provider, and Teach in China will appear last on the list of programs provided by Drake University.
The application will require you to provide the following materials:
a. Professional resume including references and their contact information
b. Two (2) letters of recommendation on letterhead, dated and addressed to the CCEP Director from either faculty members or employers who can speak to your preparedness to teach English.
c. A copy of your undergraduate transcript (and diploma if you've already graduated form Drake).
The application must be completed and submitted no later than 12:00 noon, March 2, 2012 for placement consideration. Please contact the Program Director with any questions via e-mail or by phone at (515) 271-3035 or in person at The Point 106, Drake University, Des Moines, IA 50311.
2. After an initial review of application materials, interviews with the CCEP Director will be scheduled for the week following the deadline, March 5-9. Applicants who are not available for in-person interviews during that week may schedule an online interview with the CCEP Director.
3. Applicants who are approved for placement in the program will be notified the week following interviews and should they accept placement in the Teach in China program their placement will be secured only by submission of the program deposit of $250 by March 23, 2012. Program placements will then be announced in mid-April.
